Theo grew up working along with his parents at the Hot Springs in Lavaridge Town. After his father moved away to Sinnoh, Theo stayed behind to take care of his mother. One day after arriving home from work, he decided to take a long walk in the woods. Staying out extra late, he forgot his way back and stayed out in the woods for 2 days, living on Oran berries. On the last day, scared and alone, he returned to the same spot he sat on the first night. There is where he saw a Growlithe sitting on the rock he sat on. Soon enough, they became quick friends and Growlithe helped him get back. On his 13th birthday, his mother sent him on his way, realizing him and Growlithe could achieve alot like his father once did.
